New Xerox Color 800/1000 Presses Attract Industry Attention: Image Quality and Speed Driving Install

ROCHESTER, N.Y., July 20, 2010 – Xerox Corporation’s (NYSE: XRX) new Color 800/1000 Presses have made a great first impression as printers around the world install the devices to produce vivid images on a wide range of paper stocks.
The systems, printing 80 and 100 pages per minute respectively, are ideal for print service providers looking to expand their digital businesses to produce sophisticated, full-color applications including sales collateral and direct-marketing pieces.
“This is the first time that the ability to add a special effect, such as this clear coating, has been made available through a fifth imaging station in a Xerox production color product,” said Jim Hamilton, group director, InfoTrends’ Production Hardware Consulting Services. “I am sure customers will be able to use it to great advantage as they create and sell value-added content that goes beyond the four process colors.”

Recent installations of the Xerox Color 800/1000 Presses include:

  • James River Press, together with Mailing Services Inc., will use the Xerox Color 800 Press to offer high-end variable-data print jobs to a broad spectrum of clients and prospects. The two companies, located in Richmond, Va., are producing a 5,000 piece three-part mailer with seven different versions and personalized imaging on both sides.
“All of this will be done in one pass on the Xerox Color 800,” said Easley Johnson, vice president, Sales and Marketing, James River Press. “There will be tremendous savings in time and costs running a job like this on the 800 versus offset.”
  • The official printer of the Denver Broncos, Publication Printers, purchased the Xerox Color 1000 Press to broaden its digital printing capabilities. The full-service print company will use the press and its clear dry ink feature to enhance short-run color applications, variable-data print jobs and proofing web press applications.
    • “This new technology will amp up our digital capabilities and we expect an increase in business,” said Kerri Rosenberg-Hallet, director, Sales and Marketing, Publication Printers. “As the print-on-demand market grows, we need to constantly improve our arsenal of equipment and offerings to stay ahead of the pack.”
    • Serbin Printing selected the Xerox Color 1000 Press after serving as a customer test site. “We had the opportunity to ‘kick the tires’ of the Xerox 1000 Press before it launched and we were impressed with what we saw; we knew the press could help drive our growing book business,” said Mark Serbin, president, Serbin Printing.
The Sarasota, Fla.-based full-service commercial print shop utilizes Xerox FreeFlow® Web Services and XMPie’s UDirect® Studio to enable more applications and new revenue streams. They have also found the Xerox ProfitAccelerator® Business Development Tools beneficial in attracting new customers.
    • Sir Speedy Printing and Marketing Services located in eastern Tampa, is the first Sir Speedy franchise to purchase the Xerox Color 800 Press. Serving the business-to-business market, Sir Speedy will use the device to print booklets, postcards, door hangers, fliers and business cards. Personalized print jobs will be supported with XMPie’s uDirect Classic.
“We have a diverse customer base, and the applications coming off the Xerox Color 800 Press – particularly with its color quality and clear dry ink –will appeal to all of them,” said Steve Albritton, vice president, Sales and Marketing, Sir Speedy.
    • Herts Display, a Xerox Premier Partner located in the U.K. and also a customer test site for the press, purchased the first two Xerox Color 1000 Presses in Europe. The printing and stationery company will use the machines to produce a wide range of applications including fliers, newsletters, brochures and variable-data documents.
“We expect the Xerox Color 1000 Press to have a massive impact on the digital printing world, giving users like Herts Display both a competitive edge and a superior product,” said Pete Watkins, director, Herts Display.

Balanced Deployment at Work

2009-11-19_200501 Recent IDC research suggests that “a large site with 1,000 plus employees is paying $200 plus per employee in direct hardcopy costs alone.”* So, not surprisingly Gartner research reveals a new trend in the way organizations think about managing their printing and imaging environments. “By YE05, 60 percent of all enterprises will have begun an enterprise wide effort to optimize document output fleet spending through changes to their purchasing and asset management policies.”** The same research suggests that there are significant savings to be had by those who turn their thinking into action, “Through YE08, enterprises that actively manage their document output fleets will be able to save between 10 percent and 30 percent of their recurrent spending.”

Achieving The CXO 's Agenda: Bottom-Line Benefits of the Optimized Imaging Infrastructure

2009-11-05_181757 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Many companies searching for areas where they can show operational improvements while also cutting costs have turned their focus to their imaging and printing infrastructure. A new set of tools, technologies, and processes – combined with more networked environments – has given companies the means to optimize their imaging operations.
Remote management of imaging assets now enables companies to centralize key functions, improve their ability to respond to changing business priorities, and ultimately reduce the cost of support and maintenance. Improved reporting capabilities have helped companies optimize their mix of imaging assets and streamline their imaging investments. Companies also have shown that core business processes can be made more efficient by improving the way documents are integrated into traditional workflows. Overall, the companies implementing these measures achieved direct cost savings of between 8% and 41%, with the greatest savings a result of reduced spending on hardcopy devices, reduced IT support costs, and lowered consumables spending.

"Managed print services" may help companies rein in an insidious expense.

"Managed print services" may help companies rein in an insidious expense Making copies isn't brain surgery, but at Florida's Health First chain of hospitals it had become what chief information officer Richard Rogers describes as a "convoluted mess." Nursing stations were overrun by copiers, fax machines, and printers, taking up precious counter space and impeding day-to-day operations.

If getting to (or away from) the machines was a chore, so too was keeping them running. There was no consistent process for ordering toner — departments purchased from a range of suppliers, sometimes buying poor-quality reconditioned cartridges. Some nursing units stocked up on a year's supply at a time, others bought on a more ad hoc basis, and no one knew what anyone else had on hand.

Rogers sought a cure in so-called managed print services, a form of outsourcing that addresses the rationalization of office equipment and its maintenance. Lexmark International won the bid, and its consultants set about analyzing document output patterns throughout the company. They replaced many single-function machines with strategically placed multifunction devices that print, copy, scan, and fax. They also rolled out a system that automatically reorders supplies when needed with no hospital-staff involvement. As a result, Rogers says that hard costs alone have dropped from 3.1 cents per image to 1.4 cents per image.

Security in the Office

Security in the Office In today’s office, multifunction devices can print, copy, scan to network destinations, send email attachments, and handle incoming and outgoing fax transmissions. If everyone has access to your multifunction printer, that means just about anyone can launch attacks against the network and network resources ranging from simple (picking up documents left in the output tray) to complex (distributing documents over the network or accessing confidential information).

Xerox is committed to helping you secure your environment and achieve your regulatory compliance objectives through systems, software and services designed to provide security that assures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of critical document and network assets.

Creating secure document management processes and protecting document confidentiality.

Creating secure document management processes and protecting document confidentiality. Protecting sensitive, proprietary or classified information has always been challenging. Nevertheless, before the advent of today’s digitally networked offices and increasingly sophisticated threats, maintaining airtight security of confidential documents often meant simply putting those documents away and locking the door behind you at the end of the workday.

In this uneasy, post-9/11 environment, however, managers in government as well as healthcare, financial services, pharmaceuticals and other segments of corporate America are more aware than ever before of the need for deploying more sophisticated document security processes and technologies to ensure confidentiality.

Document Management Return on Investment Analysis

Document Management Return on Investment Analysis In today’s business world the ROI of any project is important as competition increases, it is imperative that a company make sure investments generate a large enough return. Increasing business efficiency is the most compelling reason for investing money in any project. Obviously technology has helped many businesses over the last 10-15 years become more efficient. Just replacing typewriters with word processors and calculators with spreadsheets initiated a huge increase in productivity per employee. Taking the next step is more challenging than simply replacing one tool for another as these programs were basically point solutions. It was predicted as early as 1975 that the “paperless office had arrived”. Obviously progress has been made toward this goal, but the amount of paperwork necessary to run a business (particularly a regulated one such as financial services and medical clinics) has increased a great deal since 1975. Just to maintain the status quo requires businesses to move to the next level in office productivity and implement a complete document management solution.

Almost every business in today’s workplace uses some type of document management system (including paper-based systems) to maintain the documents used on a daily basis. Accounting departments maintain A/P and A/R files for customers and vendors. The sales department maintains orders for each of the customers. Customer service representatives maintain records on service calls and the service needed. A comprehensive electronic document management system (EDMS) can provide a method for storing all relevant documents about a particular customer or vendor allowing office staff to gain a total view of the customer or vendor. If the EDMS can be integrated into the point software solutions that each department uses, significant gains in productivity and efficiency can be gained. For instance the accounting department could access documents (orders, invoices, contracts, …) online from their accounting application. Sales could access documents from their CRM (customer relationship management) software. The goal of an EDMS should be the software glue that ties the different software packages together in such a manner that all departments in a business gain efficiencies.
